(Item 008475) Close DLUR/S network priority pacing windows later ---------------------------------------------------------------- At the AIW14 DLUR Performance BOF, it was pointed out that DLUR/S implementations normally close all of their session pacing windows at the same time when congestion is detected. This makes efforts to reduce congestion, e.g., sending DACTPUs and DACTLUs over the CP-SVR pipe, not only ineffective but also a contributor to increased congestion. Since these session deactivation commands flow at network priority, the implementations could be updated to allow the network priority pacing windows to be closed later than the other priorities, giving the deactivation commands a chance to reduce congestion. The DLUR architecture reference will be updated with a new section on CP-SVR Pipe Performance Considerations. Included will be the following: It is recommended that DLUR products close their network priority pacing windows last (instead of the more typical simultaneous closing of all pacing windows regardless of priority). Since SSCP-PU/LU session activation and deactivation commands flow at network priority, they should be allowed to flow as long as possible so that they can be used to help reduce network congestion.
